Prepare to get lost in the world of Pid in 2012

Today, Swedish video game developer Might and Delight, along with Beefy Media, announced development of an original adventure game, Pid. The game will be released as a downloadable title in 2012 for several platforms, including gaming consoles and PC.

“It´s our ambition to create an experience that has the elegant simplicity of old adventure games, where the most important ingredient is rhythm found not only in the relation between story and visuals but also in the way the game plays,” said Jakob Tuchten, creative director, Might and Delight. “We’re building a refreshing experience that pays homage to the days of classic platform games while bringing something completely new to the global gaming marketplace.”

In the fantastic world of Pid, the player’s unique and eccentric journey unfolds as the protagonist is stranded on a remote planet. Players hone their gaming abilities through creative approaches to gravity bending action, intricate puzzle-solving and classic precision platform action, overcoming larger-than-life obstacles and surprisingly original enemy characters. Throughout the course of the adventures in Pid, players will be challenged to outwit a variety of quirky robots and befriend unlikely allies on their quest to face-off against a ruler that has no intention of letting anyone leave the planet.

“I was fortunate enough to work with this talented team on Bionic Commando: Rearmed, a remake of a classic 8-bit game that ended up with higher review scores than the original game,” said Adam Boyes, president, Beefy Media. “It’s rare that you find a team as gifted as Might and Delight that has both an incredible eye for aesthetics and deep commitment to the feel of gameplay. I’m not sure what Sweden has in its water, but I think they should bottle and sell it to the rest of the games industry.”

I was able to get a sneak peek of the reveal trailer yesterday, which you can watch below, and I was blown away by the visual aesthetic of the game. Puzzle platformers do really well in the downloadable market, so it’s a good fit for Beefy Media and Might and Delight to take this route with Pid. During yesterdays interview on GiantBomb.com , Beefy Media’s President Adam Boyes revealed that the game has been in development for 18 months and is self funded. They are in discussions with publishers, but I can really see Microsoft wanting to grab this game and place it in the 2012 Summer of Arcade.

Also revealed during that interview is that Adam is also now officially part of the Might and Delight Team, which follows on the heels of the recent news that he was named a member of the board of directors of Starbreeze Studios, another Swedish developer who’s next game is the highly anticipated “Syndicate”, due out early 2012. At this rate it’s pretty clear Adam’s endgame is to become King of Sweden.

Last week we announced that Capcom had signed Beefy Media’s other 2012 title, “World Gone Sour”. I followed up with Tim Lewinson from Beefy Media about that games release date, and he told me March 2012 for consoles and a bit earlier for PC. Big things are on the horizon for Beefy Media, and we wish them the best on all of their current and future projects. Check out the trailer for Pid below.
